Government

Article: http://thechronicleherald.ca/canada/103071-un-says-canada-risks-rights-violations

In the article, the UN is taking action against the Canadian government saying that it violated human rights by cooperating with foreign countries to allow the torture of Canadian citizens overseas. The report by the UN Committee against Torture is asking the Canadian government to compensate the victims for the suffering that they had to endure.

Opinion:

One would find this surprising seeing how Canada's image on the political stage is all about human rights and protecting its citizen to its best extent. This relates closely to the controversial Bill-C31 and Tamil Refugees on the boat, where Canada ignored the dangers that the refugees would suffer if they were deported back to their own country.

First Nations

In the article, First Nations leaders wish to have a meeting with Queen Elizabeth II to discuss the Royal Proclamation of 1763. The meeting is to discuss the points made in the Royal Proclamation of 1763 and why the Crown has not followed through with the promises made in the treaty.

Opinion:

This is a great move by the First Nation Leaders to raise awareness of their cause and to let the public understand the broken promises that were made to them. This allows more people to understand the First Nations historical status in Canadian history.
